It is said that during Buddha’s time, he journeyed to what is now the Nan province, blessing the people of a local village. Upon seeing a holy figure, the villagers offered him fruit—a dried and hardened myrobalan (fruit of the terminalia tree). Buddha placed it in water to soften it, and after eating, he foretold, “This place will one day hold my relics, which someone will come to enshrine…” Today, this site is known as Wat Phra That Chae Haeng.
Another story from that time speaks of Buddha’s visit to Doi Kosiyachakka Mountain. Luwa, a local tribal chief, paid homage to him, and Buddha gifted him a strand of hair as a keepsake. He instructed that it be placed in a nearby cave, prophesying that this area would become a sacred ground. Years later, after Buddha’s passing, the prophecy came true with the enshrinement of the relic at Wat Phra That Cho Hae in Phrae, alongside other precious relics.
