Ratchaprapha Dam, more commonly known as Cheow Lan Dam, is located in Ban Ta Khun District, Surat Thani Province, surrounded by the dramatic limestone mountains and tropical forests of Southern Thailand. The dam was developed as part of the Khlong Saeng River basin project, with important purposes including hydroelectric power generation, water management, and flood control. Following its completion in 1987, it was given the royal name “Ratchaprapha,” meaning “Light of the Kingdom.” The creation of the reservoir transformed former valleys, forests, and waterways into an immense freshwater lake, which today forms one of the most remarkable landscapes associated with the Khao Sok region.

What makes Cheow Lan Lake so extraordinary is its spectacular limestone karsts rising dramatically from emerald-green water.
