Bueng Bua Wetland – Lotus Boardwalk & Wildlife in Sam Roi Yot
Bueng Bua forms part of Thung Sam Roi Yot, an extensive freshwater wetland within Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. Lotus leaves, reeds, cattails, and other aquatic plants spread across the water, framed by a striking backdrop of limestone peaks. Together, they create a broad, peaceful landscape that adds another dimension to an area known for its beaches and caves.
The wetlands provide feeding grounds and shelter for resident and migratory waterbirds, alongside fish, amphibians, insects, and smaller forms of life. Water levels and vegetation change with the seasons. When conditions are favourable, lotus flowers rise above the surface; at other times, reeds and aquatic greenery define the view. Each visit offers a different impression of this living landscape.
A wooden boardwalk brings visitors closer to the wetland’s quieter details—lotus leaves, passing birds, and mountain reflections on the water. The soft light of morning and late afternoon adds depth to the colours and contours. An unhurried walk here offers time to appreciate the connections between water, wildlife, plants, and the limestone mountains of Sam Roi Yot.
